on a whim...

I sent this email to Family Fun Magazine, along with this pic of Elizabeth. I am sure that nothing will come of it, but it would be cool to see her in the "Letters" section, huh?

My 6-year old daughter, Elizabeth, and I were trying to find a cookie recipe that she could make for our family dinner on Thanksgiving. I remembered your Chocolate Cookie Bark recipe from the December issue, and knew that would be something she could make with minimal help, which was just what she wanted. We decided to use the white chocolate chips and mix them with Mint Chocolate Oreos for a more festive flavor. She crushed the cookies and mixed everything together by herself. However, I knew immediately that these cookies would not look like the pretty ones in the magazine. They were kind of greenish-gray, I suppose because of the green tint in the Oreo icing. I went ahead and refrigerated them as directed, and two hours later, removed the cookie block and began to cut it into triangles. But when I cut off the first piece, my daughter exclaimed, "Cool!! We made moon rocks!" She was exactly right! Instead of breaking them into triangles, we just broke them into odd size pieces, and took the Moon Rock Cookies to Thanksgiving dinner. They were delicious, and every last one was eaten! My family even asked her to make more for Christmas. She is extremely proud of herself for creating something so special.
